Heroine Interview from Romantic Refinements by Anita Mae Draper

I’m thrilled to host Anita Mae Draper. I’ve known her for years and have cheered on her writing career. She is giving away an ebook copy of her book. The giveaway will need Sunday evening. The winner will be contacted Monday, January 18th. If you want to enter the contest, please leave a comment.

Interview with the heroine: Marion McDermott from Romantic Refinements by Anita Mae Draper:

Novella 2 Romantic RefinementsMarion McDermott, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

At this moment, I’d say the most interesting thing about me is my search for a husband. I hope to have a handsome husband on my arm when Poppa comes to get me from Aunt Mattie’s Rocking R.

What do you do for fun?

I ride, or watch the ranch hands work with the horses. And if I have to stay in the house, I play my piano.

What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Cleaning house. I’d rather be outside cleaning the barn than working in a stuffy house.

What are you afraid of most in life?

That I’ll choose the wrong man to be my husband. You see, I’m drawn to handsome men who flatter me, and yet there’s this other man – a retired Texas ranger with battle scars – who doesn’t cater to my fancy whims, but who has integrity and an inner strength to make any woman feel safe.

What do you want out of life?

I want children running around my feet, and a strong husband who will work beside me on Poppa’s ranch.

What is the most important thing to you?

Poppa.

Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I enjoy reading books that include romance with everyday life, such as the novels by Anthony Trollope and Thomas Hardy, but my absolute favorite book is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

Final Vol 1If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

This is hard to admit, but I seem to have a knack of judging people based on their appearance. If I could change anything, it would be to see a person’s heart first and leave the judging to God.

Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

I own several horses back home, but the one I feel most affectionate toward is Brandon’s little palomino here at the Rocking R.

If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Anything? Oh, if it were only possible, I’d go back to the day I was born and try to save my mother from dying during childbirth.

  1. Good stuff, Anita! Congratulations on Release Day for Romantic Refinements!

Thanks for helping Austen in Austin become a reality, and thanks to Margaret for the chance to hear from Marion!

    • Thanks, Susie. So glad we had a chance to work on this project together. 🙂

  2. What a fun interview! I love Anita’s novella and am so excited for its release today!

Thanks, Margaret, for hosting Anita Mae and letting us get to know Marion a bit better!

    • Whoops…so excited that today is finally here, that I answered you Susie, under Deb’s comment. 😀

So Deb, I’ll answer here… thank you! I’m honored to have you on the same book cover as me. 🙂

  3. Dear Margaret, thank you so much for hosting me here today on this very special day. Ever since you first took me under your wing back in 2008, I’ve considered myself blessed to have you as a friend and supporter of my writing.

  4. I love character interviews! Marion sounds very sweet and very tender. Can’t wait to read her story.

Congratulations on the new release! 😀

    • Well, thank you, bn100. It’s the artistic work of Roseanna White over at WhiteFire Publishing. She’s a marvel at design as well as being an author in her own right.

  6. Such a beautiful cover. Searching for a husband is certainly interesting.

    • Mary, searching for a husband was the fun part. My problem was writing this novella as a love triangle, which I normally don’t like to read. But since I was writing a Texas version of Marianne Dashwood in Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility, I had to do find 2 suitors for the lady. I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

  7. Would love to read this. Thanks for a chance to win.

  8. Great interview, great cover, great book!

  9. So sorry for late entries, ladies, and thank you for bearing with me.

I’m not sure if it’s the weather between our satellite receiver here on the prairies, and our satellite provider in New Brunswick – yeah, it’s that far – or if our receiver is out of alignment, but my internet has been down more times than up over this past week.

And today it’s the power. In the last 3 hours, our power has gone off/reset a total of 5 times which knocks out our internet eat time. I’m saving this comment in the hopes that I can get it sent out soon. 🙁
