Silent Night Pursuit

Interview with the hero from Silent Night Pursuit by Katy Lee

1. Wade Spencer, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Sorry to be blunt, but I get people killed when I share things about myself. For your own safety, it’s best if I only speak of things that are public knowledge. For example, I’m a captain in the United States Army and have served my country alongside some of the most amazing men and women in the world. One in particular was a brother to me. He was recently killed in an explosion…soon after I shared things about myself with him.

2. What do you do for fun?

I own a racetrack back home in Norcastle, New Hampshire. I do enjoy a good car race, but don’t tell my sister I said that. She’s been trying to get me to come home and take on more responsibility at the speedway. I need to stay away from that place. Too many bad memories that haunt me to this day.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Going home for the holidays. I look for ways to skip out, but my sister won this year. Now I have to go home for Christmas. This ought to be fun. Not.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

The injury inside me destroying everyone I love. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is what the docs call it. You don’t want to know what I call it.

5. What do you want out of life?

The normal wife, kids, a picket fence. Or, in other words, Mission Impossible. You don’t always get what you want.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Keeping the people in my life safe. At all costs, they must be kept safe. Even safe from me.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I don’t need to read books. My life is spy novel, and I’ve yet to figure out who the bad guys are.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

To erase the memories that have a hold on my mind. The biggest is the one where my parents were killed right in front of me when I was eight.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

My dog, Promise, isn’t a pet. She’s my service dog trained to be my guide, day and night, through every situation coming my way. She has a duty, just as I do. She keeps me on track, so I can carry out my orders. I’m done for without her. Except, the army gave her to me to help me open up and share my pain. They don’t get it. People die when I talk.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Back to the day when I was eight years old. Something happened at the family’s racetrack. I was told not to tell. I was told to keep my mouth shut and no one gets hurt.

I guess I don’t need to tell you how that went down.
