Interview with the heroine from Joline’s Redemption by Vickie McDonough

1. Joline Jensen, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I suppose the most interesting thing is the strange life I’ve lived. I was a rather rebellious teenager. You see, my parents died in a fire when I was only five. Then a year later, my grandma died, and my older brother, whom I adored and looked up to, left us. My grandpa and older sister raised me, but I hated being told what to do. I much preferred fishing and hunting to tending the house or garden. Now that I’m a bit older and wiser, I realize how foolish I was. All of that loss affected me, but I didn’t know it then. My bad choices sure led me down some scary paths.

2. What do you do for fun?

It’s been a long time since I’ve had any fun. The highlight of my day, though, is playing with my one-year-old son, Jamie, and seeing him laugh. He’s the only good thing in my life.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

It isn’t a proper topic of conversation.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

That something will happen to my son and that I’ll never escape the prison I’m in.

5. What do you want out of life?

Anything but what I have now.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Jamie—and finding a way to escape the life I’m living. If only I had listened to my sister.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

No. There is no time or money for such extravagances.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’d choose to be ugly—because then maybe Mark and Badger would never have looked my way. My life would have been so vastly different.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

No.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go back to when I was a stubborn, rebellious, know-it-all teenager and listen to the advice my grandpa and sister gave me. I’d also pay attention in church and pray to God instead of running away from Him.
