Interview with the heroine from Red is for Rookie by Anne Greene

1. Hollyhock Garden, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Everyone calls her Holly. Holly thinks she’s an ordinary person. And she is ordinary, except she’s also highly intelligent and persistence is her middle name. She never gives up on a case until she solves it.

2. What do you do for fun?

Holly doesn’t have much time for fun. She’s intent on searching for her best male friend from childhood, Matt Murdock, who has been kidnapped. When she’s not working a case, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and attending single functions at her church.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Holly’s a go getter, so seldom puts off things she dreads. Instead she faces them, conquers them, and moves on to some other challenge.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Holly has two fears. She fears not witnessing about her faith to someone God calls her to speak with. She didn’t once and the young man was murdered before anyone else had an opportunity to tell him the way of salvation. And second, she fears not being a good enough detective to find her father’s murderer and clear her father’s dirtied name. Both fears drive her behavior.

5. What do you want out of life?

Holly wants to revive her father’s dying detective business and become as great a detective as her murdered father was. Though two fabulous men are romantically interested in her, she has little time for romance at the present.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Usually, but not always, Holly has her priorities straight. God is first in her life, then her quirky family: interfering Mom, quirky Grandmother and twin sisters, Camille (Camie) and Magnolia (Maggie). Holly calls them The Flowers. Third comes her faltering Career as a detective.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Yes, Holly is an avid reader of suspense, mysteries, and thrillers.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Holly attracts men like flypaper does flies. Though she dresses simply and tries not to attract attention, she invariable does. Perhaps the reason is that trouble and adventure seek her out and pull her in. Many men find that appealing.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Holly’s friend, Temple, that she rooms with owns a blue and gold Macaw. The bird’s loud cawing serves as a better watch dog than a German Shepherd. Plus Cha Cha is loving, doesn’t have to be taken out for walks, and doesn’t cost much to feed.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Holly would love to go back to that awful stake-out night with her Dad. If she could, she would not fall asleep and let him be murdered.
