Interview with the hero from A Bond for the Holidays by Lee Tobin McClain

Lee Tobin McClain’s novella in the Love’s Gift collection, A Bond for the Holidays, is part of her Sacred Bond series of Christian romance novels. Here’s her interview with Dr. Robert Stern, the pediatrician hero of A Bond for the Holidays. Check out the whole series at www.leetobinmcclain.com.

1. Pediatrician Robert Stern, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

My wife just shared some devastating news with me, news that might break up our family… but I’ve agreed to stay together for the holidays.

2. What do you do for fun?

Cheer on my son at his lacrosse matches and cook dinner with my wife. At least, that’s what I used to do…

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Making nice with the board members at the University medical school, where I’m up for a big job I’m not sure I even want.

3. What are you afraid of most in life?

I’m afraid of losing my wife and son.

5. What do you want out of life?

I want to make a difference through my medical work. I’m a pediatrician, and I love helping underprivileged and at-risk kids.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Besides God? My wife and son.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I love to read when I have time, usually medical or scientific texts. I’ll admit to escaping with a medical thriller sometimes.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’m sort of a stick in the mud. Old Reliable Robert, not that exciting. I wish I could rekindle the spark in my wife’s eyes.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

I don’t have any pets right now, but I have the feeling I’m going to have a mother cat and some kittens by the time the holidays are over.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go hang out with Dr. David Livingstone, a great medical missionary who brought health and the gospel to Africa in the 1800s.

  3. Thanks, Jackie and Amy. I hear you about the stress of aging and family–as an “older mom,” I have a little bit of each! Hope you pick up the set and enjoy it.

  4. Growing up, the stress at the holidays was which way the alcoholics would act out.

Now, thank goodness, as an adult with my own family, we just don’t put out expectations. Just enjoy each other tremendously.

Great interview. I have just downloaded this collection. Thank you!!!

  8. Robin, Ann, and Linda–thanks for reading and commenting. I wish everyone could win! Robin, yes–the holidays are the WORST for alcohol abuse. I’m glad you’re past dealing with that now. Ann, I bet when you put your feet up, you have a book in hand! And Linda: so true, the expectations we put on ourselves are the worst! We need to give ourselves a break.

  9. Hello Margaret and Lee. Thanks for this review. Would love to win your gift. GOD bless you both. Maxie > mac262(at)me(dot)com <
