Interview with the heroine from Targeted by Becky Avella:

1. Stephanie O’Brien, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I’ve traveled to Africa three times. My sister and brother-in-law are missionaries in Liberia, and I can’t wait to join them full time.

2. What do you do for fun?

I’m living a pretty simple and frugal life in order to save up for my mission work. Thankfully, Seattle is full of great beaches and walking trails that don’t cost anything. And of course, I have my favorite coffee shops, too.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I’m the queen of procrastination. I put off everything, even simple things like making a phone call. As a teacher, I’m always only one step ahead, writing lesson plans and running photocopies the night before I need them. The janitors at the school know me really well.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Not doing enough. I’m afraid of failing God and the people I care about, of losing their love.

5. What do you want out of life?

I just want my life to count. To do something that has value. I want to go back to Liberia, but I also hope I’ll be able to be a wife and mother someday.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

To get to the end of my life and hear God say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

I love to read! I read a lot of missionary biographies and sweet, quirky romances. Right now I’m reading Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis and Dear Mr. Knightly by Katherine Reay.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’d be braver.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

I would love to have a pet as soon as my life is settled.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go back to the early 1900s and work with missionary, Amy Carmichael in India. I’ve admired her for so long. I can’t imagine the joy of actually speaking to her and learning alongside her. It would be a dream come true.
