Interview with the heroine from Double Agent by Lisa Phillips:
Sabine Fraternau, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you… Isn’t that how it goes?
Let’s see.
I’ve worked for the CIA for a number of years now. I have a step-brother who was Army Special Forces until he was killed recently, we were close. We grew up together in foster care after our mom killed my step-dad and then tried to kill us. But if you met me, you’d think I wasn’t anyone special. Apart from my light skin and dark brown hair and eyes, you’d probably look right past me. That’s why I make a good spy.
What do you do for fun?
I don’t get a lot of down-time between missions, but I love to sit outside at this little café in Seattle where I live, and read old adventure novels. But if I get any vacation time, you’ll find me in Hawaii.
What do you put off doing because you dread it?
I don’t tend to put stuff off. If something is hard, you should attack it head-on. Get it done and move on.
What are you afraid of most in life?
My first marriage ended because my husband cheated on me. I’m most afraid that I won’t ever meet someone who will love me more than anything or anyone else. What if I’ve had my chance, and that’s all you get?
What do you want out of life?
I want to keep doing my job, for as long as I’m able. Hey – there’s nowhere that it says spies all have to be in their twenties. So why can’t I be a rockin’ sixty-year-old, infiltrating enemy strongholds and stealing secrets? I’m pretty sure I could pull that off.
What is the most important thing to you?
I would have said family, but now all I have are my memories of my brother. Oh, and all the junk he left in his bedroom for me to clean up. Still, even with him gone I’d like to think families are what make life good.
Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
Something historic, tragic, usually romantic and incredibly adventurous. The Count of Monte Cristo, or something like that.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would try and be more friendly, probably. With a secretive job, it’s hard to let people in when you’re essentially lying about who you are. Maybe if I ever had to switch careers, I might make friends with my co-workers, or my neighbor.
Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I had a goldfish once. It didn’t end well.
If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d like to go be a spy during World War II, because I think it would be fascinating to be part of such a pivotal time in history. To know you made a difference on a global level, and to the future of an entire continent. Especially as a woman.
Thank you for having me over to visit today!
I hope you enjoy my story,
