This week I’m hosting Linda White with Words of Conviction (US only) and Ronie Kendig with Raptor 6 (US only). If you want to enter the drawings for the books, please leave a comment on your post with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (May 4th) evening.
Interview with the hero from Raptor 6 by Ronie Kendig:
1. Dean, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Probably the most interesting thing about is that I’m not interesting. I’m just a guy doing his job. For me, that’s a career in the Army, serving as a Special Forces operator and team leader.
2. What do you do for fun?
Fun is downtime with my buddies. A time to let the strain of always being “ready” drain out for awhile.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Put off? More like avoid—parties. When you’ve been where I’ve been and seen what I’ve seen, those type of things don’t make sense because you’ve been out of country, but you can’t tell people what you were doing, and most time, you don’t want to talk about it anyone. Then there’s the drinking and craziness. . . It’s not a good use of time.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Failing my team—missing something that might cost a life or limb.
5. What do you want out of life?
To do what I was put here to do, protect the innocent. Bring justice.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
My team. These men are my brothers, they are my family, the ones I look to and the ones who look to me. We watch out for each other, and that goes beyond operations.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
I’ll grab an autobiographical book if it intrigues me—like Marcus Luttrell’s Lone Survivor. I also enjoy Colonel North’s books on Special Operations.
8. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I deploy too often to provide a stable environment for an animal, so no—no pets.
9. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
A point in my past, one I’m not proud. A time where I hid instead of fought. But I’d rather not talk about that.
