Hero Interview from Fire Storm by Dakota Dare:
1. Jim, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Oh, I don’t know. Am I really that interesting? 🙂 I’ve had a lot of interesting things happen to me in my life… though some I would not have chosen. I like to mix things up and keep life interesting. I love my job as a firefighter for that reason. I love action and like to stay active.
2. What do you do for fun?
I like to ride and train my horses. I like to work hard whether I’m at the station, on my farm, or volunteering at some other project. I love sharing a sunset with Jess or lying on a gravel road on a clear night just laughing and counting the stars together. Of course, now that we have little Morgan, I could lose hours engulfed in lengthy attempts to add the word, “Daddy,” to her vocabulary. I always enjoy hangin’ out with my friends and engaging in a good game of “tackle basketball.” I like going to church and reading my Bible. I believe Christ’s coming back soon, and I get excited about that prospect.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Going to the doctor. I hate being on the receiving end of any medical situation.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Losing someone I love… again.
5. What do you want out of life?
A purpose. Peace. A happy home. A close relationship with my Creator and Savior. An eternal hope. Self control. Physical, emotional, and spiritual strength. High morals and integrity. People I’m absolutely certain I can trust. A reputation that I stand for right and don’t give in.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
My relationship with my Savior, then my family, then other people, and lastly my “stuff” and property …. At least, this is how I strive to live.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
Jess likes to read. I never end up getting a good night’s sleep when she gets a hold of a “real good one.” As if the light being on all night wasn’t bad enough, I get banged in the stomach at three ‘o clock in the morning because someone’s getting murdered in her book, and she thinks she hears something downstairs. The only time her imaginations of a villain in the basement validated was the time that the masked murderer turned out to be a raccoon… “ominously” hidingbehind the dryer.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Though I know the Lord’s in control and knows what he was doing in each circumstance, there are some memories that still haunt me from my past, and sometimes I wish they had a different outcome.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
We have horses. I don’t know if I’d call them pets. They certainly aren’t like powder-puff poodles, but they are friends. I love their ability to communicate through body language. If you take the time to listen you can easily tell what they are thinking and “saying.” Mostly, I like the challenges they give. I like to feel their strength and bein’ in control of their great physical power.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d love to of been part of the crowd at the feeding of the 5,000, listening to Jesus teach and then eating from his miracle.
