Interview with the heroine from Love Finds You in Hershey, PA:

1. Sadie, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

After years of dreaming, I opened up my very own restaurant, Suncatchers, a year ago in my hometown of Hershey, Pennsylvania. My mom’s talent for painting suncatchers inspired the restaurant’s theme – they hang on mirrors all over the main dining room.

2.  What do you do for fun?

I’m the single mother of a five-year-old, so my definition of a good time usually involves picking dried Play-Doh out of Legos.

Fortunately, my best friend, Jasper, often hangs around to keep me from becoming totally obsessive compulsive.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Dating. It can be a tedious business, getting back into the dating game. I think I’d rather take my chances with a set of dull kitchen knives.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life?

Losing people.

5.  What do you want out of life?

To master the skill of desserts. Without undue trauma to myself, the kitchen, or the confection. I may be a highly trained chef, but desserts and I have past issues.

6.  What is the most important thing to you?

My daughter, Kylie. If it wasn’t for her, I’d have crumbled like a cookie after my husband’s, and then my mom’s, deaths.

7.  Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

Dr. Seuss changed my life. I know that may sound strange, but after Kylie was born, I had all these fears about being a good mom. I began collecting Dr. Seuss books to read to Kylie as she got older, and through the wisdom of characters like Horton the Elephant and the Cat in the Hat, I learned to believe I’m capable. Relatively capable, anyway.

If we’re talking what I read outside of spending time with Kylie, it would have to be cookbooks.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I wouldn’t take myself, or my abilities, so seriously.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Not too long ago, I got Kylie a goldfish. She flushed him down the toilet prematurely. She said she wanted him to be free, like Nemo. A week later, when she asked if we could get a hamster, I said no.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go back to the year before my husband, Ned, died. I’d focus more on him and less on everything I had going on at the time, with my cooking show and cookbook contracts. He was the kind of guy who understood, but I still wish I had known how little time I had left with him.
