Heroine Interview from Vanish in Plain Sight by Marta Perry:

1. Marisa Angelo , tell me the most interesting thing about you. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been haunted by the image of my mother walking away, leaving my dad and me behind, to go back to her Amish family. I’ve tried to learn to live with that. But now, my mother’s bloodstained suitcase has been found inside the wall of a Pennsylvania Dutch farmhouse, and everything changed. I can’t be content until I learn the truth about my mother’s fate.

2.  What do you do for fun? I’m an illustrator of children’s books, and not only is that my job, but it’s my pleasure. I’m happiest with a drawing pencil in my hand.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it? I hate confronting people, and I’ll do almost anything to avoid it. But I’m going to have to get over that if I’m going to succeed.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life? I’m most afraid of never knowing the truth—of always having this hole in my heart because my mother didn’t want me.

5.  What do you want out of life? Love. Family.

6.  What is the most important thing to you? Learning the truth about what happened to my mother.

7.  Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read? This may sound silly, but I really love children’s books. I know, I’m supposed to be an adult now, but those stories still speak to me. Maybe that’s why I’m an illustrator.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I’d like to have more courage, so that I wouldn’t be tempted to hide under the covers whenever anything unpleasant comes up.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet? I don’t, because I live alone and travel a lot in my work.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? I would go back to the day my mother disappeared, and I would change the outcome, no matter what.
