Interview with the hero:

1. Josh McBride, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Most people don’t know that my father is a successful cattle baron in Colorado. We didn’t see eye to eye so I decided I’ve leave Colorado and find out what life held in store for me and I’m very glad that I came to Montana. I love it here.

2. What do you do for fun?
My favorite thing I like to do is ride the prairie with my horse, Pete, with my dog, Shebe beside me. There’s no sky like the wide open sky of Montana. Most of the time I’m among my flock of sheep and trying to keep the dumb critters out of trouble.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
I don’t like having to dock the sheep’s tails, but it’s a necessary thing in order to keep their hair from matting and it keeps down infection which is hard to fight.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Like any man, I’m afraid of failure. Starting a sheepherding ranch wasn’t the most popular thing to do, especially by my father’s standards. I want to succeed and be able to provide for a family or what would any woman but especially Juliana think of me?

5. What do you want out of life?
I want a loving wife and partner whose faith is important to her as it is me, and have a passel of children we can raise on my ranch.

6. What is the most important thing to you?
Most important to me is to be a good example in this body and mind God gave me and to live so that when he calls me home to the big place in the sky, he’ll say “Well done, Josh”.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
Yes, I do read and I like to read newspapers too, and stay caught up on what’s happening since I’m out on the range a lot. I like stories with adventure and at the moment, I’m reading Moby Dick. ‘Course, I consult “The Good Book” a lot for my personal guidance an awful lot.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
If I could change one thing about me it would probably be that my tendency to think ahead or jump to conclusions. Thinking ahead is not always a bad thing, but jumping to conclusions can cause a lot of misconceived notions about what someone is thinking or said. I learned the hard way…

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
Well now…I do love my horse, Pete, but I’m really close to Shebe, my sheepdog. I bought her in the beginning to help me keep the sheep in line, but she has become my faithful best friend. Shebe takes her job seriously and is good at it.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I might like to travel back to the time to when David was a young sheepherder and played his harp to calm his sheep. I can’t play any musical instrument, so that would impress me. But it’d be great to see him take down Goliath.
