Heroine interview from It’s Not About Him by Michelle Sutton:

Interview with the heroine from It’s Not About Him:

1. Susie Ziglar, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I’m a relatively new Christian who just had a baby. I placed my child with a loving family, but my best friend, Jeff, isn’t leaving it alone. He says he wants to marry me. Yeah, right! That’ll never work. Not unless it’s in God’s plan, and right now I’m not sure what that plan is. I just know that I don’t want to marry someone who doesn’t really love me. Or worse, someone who thinks he loves me but he really just wants to rescue me from something he disagrees with.

2. What do you do for fun?

What fun? I think I’ve forgotten how to have fun because of all of the drama going on in my life right now. Okay, I suppose hanging out with my friend Annie is fun. So is hanging out with Jeff–when he isn’t bugging me to change my mind about the adoption and marry him.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Signing those final adoption papers. As much as I want to do the right thing, it seems so…permanent, and because of that I really dread it.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

That my child will be angry at me for not keeping her. That she won’t love me, or that she will think I never loved her. I love her so much that it hurts, but that’s why I’m doing what is best for her no matter what anybody says. I know what’s best.

5. What do you want out of life?

I just want to be loved. Isn’t that how it is for everyone? Yeah, I know God loves me and my friends love me, but I don’t always feel very loved. I suppose I want to be married and have a family some day, too, but for now I just want to get on with my life and heal from this lousy situation.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Right now, sadly, the most important thing is the child I just placed with friends who are certified to adopt. Because she is so vulnerable I need to be strong and do the right thing for her, not just what everyone thinks I should do or what I think will make me happy for now. So sticking to the plan and doing what I know is right is more important to me than anything else right now.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

I love to read when I have time. But when I’m depressed I tend to steer clear of books that will make me feel even more sad than I already am. When I’m in a reading mood, though, I love to read romance novels. The hotter the hero, the more I like the story. There is nothing like slipping out of your own life and climbing into the pages of a novel. Anything that will make me feel better is a good book.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I used to think I’d go back in time and make it so I’d never gotten pregnant to begin with, but then when I think about how that whole situation led me to Christ I can’t say I’d change a thing because then I’d be lost and just as selfish as I used to be. So, that said, I just wish I had hurt less people with my lies when I first found out that I was going to have a baby.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Oh, yes, I have the most adorable little kitten you ever saw in your life. Her name is Tiger Lily. She’s feisty, but I like that. When my dad was alive he would never let me have a kitty so this one gets a lot of love to make up for all the years I was pet-deprived.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I would probably go back to the day my mother died and I’d tell her I loved her and give her a hug so she’d know that I would always think of her. I wish I had known she was going to die, but sometimes those things happen and then we realize it too late. I miss her.
