This week I’m hosting Sandra Robbins with Final Warning and Golden Keyes Parsons with In the Shadows of the Sun King. If you want to enter the drawing for the book, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (Aug 23rd) evening.

Golden Keyes Parsons’ interview:

1.What made you start writing?

I’ve always written. I learned to read when I was four years old, and grew up loving the printed word. My dad was a newspaper man, as was all his family, so our house was always full of books, newspapers and manuscripts. My first newspaper article was printed when I was nine years old. But incredibly I never thought about being a “professional” author until Marita Littauer with CLASS told me that if I wanted to speak professionally, I needed to be published. So I started the writing journey.

2.How long have you been writing? When did you sell your first book?

I answered that partially above. I’ve been writing professionally for about 13 years. I sold my first book two years ago.

3.How do you handle rejections?

Not very well. It’s discouraging. I received SIX rejections in one day at one point. But I’ve learned to deal with it, try to learn from it and move on.

4.Why do you write?

I write because it is a part of my nature. I express things much better with a pen than I do speaking. And I’m a professional speaker!

5.What would you be doing with your free time if you weren’t writing?

Reading, playing the piano, painting

6.What are you working on right now?

Book #3 in the Darkness to Light Series based on my French Huguenot heritage.

7.Do you put yourself into your books/characters?

I wouldn’t know how to bring characters to life any other way.

8.Tell us about the book you have out right now.

“In The Shadow Of The Sun King” is Book One in the series and deals with the persecution of the French Huguenots in 17th century France by King Louis XIV. Book Two, “A Prisoner Of Versailles” releases in September and is the sequel to that. Our heroine is still trying to get out of France ☺

9. Do you have any advice for other writers?

If God has called you to write, keep writing and never quit. I have a quote on my desk that has inspired me over and over again: “A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.” Richard Bach

10.How important is faith in your books?

I write from a Biblical world view, but I don’t have Scripture or “Christianese” on every page. I think that belongs in non-fiction Christian books. The faith element is clear, but not spelled out necessarily.

11.What themes do you like to write about?

I like to write about strong women who overcome obstacles in their lives.

12.What is your favorite book you’ve written and why?

I really can’t answer that. I’ve written several non-fiction books that have not yet been published, and I love them. But I adore writing fiction and tucking the life of faith in the pages of a book that perhaps a person who doesn’t know Jesus might pick up. I hope it causes them to consider Jesus.

13.What is your writing schedule like?

I get up early and have a time with the Lord, then I go to my office and write. On MWF around 11 o’clock, I go work out. Then come home and do marketing and other business. On TTh I write all morning and do marketing in the afternoons.
