I just returned from American Christian Fiction Writers’ Conference in Dallas last weekend. It was wonderful and so spiritually uplifting. That was the best part, celebrating the power of the Lord in our lives. Awesome!!!!
I love seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The conference is a great place to network with industry professionals. One of the nice things about the conference is that at meals you can sit at a table hosted by an editor, author or agent. You can often end up pitching at the meal besides the times you have an editor or agent appointment. The opportunities are boundless if you want contact with an editor or agent.
I heard several editors talk about wanting to see historical inspirationals. Also I thought suspense, mysteries and thrillers were in being requested by editors. I didn’t see too much encouragement in the young adult market or Biblical fiction, however.
There are tapes being sold from the conference if you didn’t get a chance to go to a workshop or to the conference. I’m sure the information is up at the website www.acfw.com.
If you attended the conference, what is a tip you learned from it? My tip is more information was given concerning Avon Inspirationals. They will be starting next summer with Tracy Bateman and Linda Windsor as the first two writers to sign with them. They hope to do at least ten books a year–a mix of historical and contemporary.
