Getting started

You’ve got your story. You sit down at the computer to start writing and–nothing comes to mind or what you write is not right for the story. What do you do? I’m wrestling with that right now as I get into my next book. What are some of the things you do to motivate yourself to write? In the past I’ve slept on a scene that has bothered me and often a solution will come to mind the next morning. I figure that’s my subconscious at work. I’ve gone for long walks. I’ve prayed. I’ve immersed myself into the characters, especially their back story to get a real good feel for them. I’ve read other books. And I’ve given myself time–time away from the computer and writing. What works for you?
