Nervous Part 2/Critique Groups

I made it through the speech and actually was able to put words into sentences that made sense. The audience was wonderful and even asked me some questions at the end. I don’t think I’m ready for the speaking circuit, but I’m glad I did it and that it is over.

Writing tip: My Thursday night critique group just left, and every time I meet with them I realize how lucky I am to have such a nice group of friends who are excellent writers, too. We have been together for years and years and their support is invaluable. I’m in another critique group that is about a year and half old that is wonderful. Sometimes you get lucky and click with the other writers. But there are other times when you aren’t so lucky. I have been in a critique group that sucked the life out of me.

My word of advice on critique groups is that they can be good to help you hone your skills and for brainstorming and support, but remember the book is yours ultimately and you have to decide what advice to take or not take.
