School shootings

Being a teacher and a parent this has disturbed me greatly. This was unheard of while I grew up, but in the past ten years it has become a trend. And what a sad trend it is. How can children–for that matter adults–get to the point in their life that they think violence is the only answer? In the school where I teach we have had several intruder on campus alerts over the last few years, and I can tell you it is a panicky feeling to lock yourself and your students in your classroom and wait for the all clear announcement. Thankfully nothing became of them, but with the most recent shooting, it makes you stop and think–what if that was my school? The victims and their families are in my prayers. What can we do as a society to change this?
