I teach Special Ed English and for my classes I am reading for the first time or rereading some classics. Right now I am reading both Gulliver’s Travels and To Kill a Mockingbird. I know the story of Gulliver’s Travels but have never read To Kill a Mockingbird. I am thoroughly enjoying this slice of life in the South that Harper Lee depicts. First semester my classes read Huckleberry Finn and The Good Earth. What was so neat about these two books was my students really enjoyed the stories. A few decided to read Tom Sawyer since it was written before Huckleberry Finn. As a writer and teacher their enthusiasm was wonderful to see. What are your favorite classics? I probably will still have to say I love Pride and Prejudice the most.
