Laurie/Research

I just found out I am a finalist in the Laurie Contest for A Family for Tory, an inspirational romance. I’m excited. This is one of my favorite books that I’ve written. Of course, I have to wait until April to find out if I won.

Another tip for writing: Research. It shows if you don’t. But don’t feel you have to put everything in the book that you discover when you research. That shows, too. In the name of research I have learned to scrub dive and gone to several jungles, not to mention interviewing different people. I had the privilege of interviewing a woman police captain for an upcoming book. She is the team leader for the hostage negotiating team for her police department as well as a homicide detective. What an inspiration! She brings her Christian values to her police work and gave me so much valuable information in developing my heroine. Research doesn’t have to be boring. I find it often enriches my life and expands my horizons.
