Interview with the heroine from The Mistletoe Kiss by Janet Lee Barton

1. Millicent Faircloud, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Most people find it interesting to know that I’m a professional photographer. There aren’t a lot of women in that field right now.

2. What do you do for fun?

The Heaton House group always has something going on. There are parlor games or singing around the piano after dinner lots of nights. And this Christmas we’re planning on doing something special for Mrs. Heaton. The married couples are going to help, too. It’s going to be so much fun!

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

If I could, I’d put off going up on the top floor of the Park Row Building, I do dread it so. But taking photographs from up there will be a sure boost to my career.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Heights. I hate them. I shake on the inside just thinking about them.

5. What do you want out of life?

Deep down, I’d like a family of my own, and my dream has always been to own my own photograph shop. I don’t see why I couldn’t have both—my family would come first of course—but I’ve found men don’t take kindly to a woman wanting a business of her own, so I’m not sure I’ll ever have a family of my own.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

My faith in the Lord is most important. I want to be true to His calling for me.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

After the Bible, I love reading about photography to learn all I can to take better photographs.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Well, I suppose I can be a bit headstrong and stubborn at times. At least Matt thinks I am. And he doesn’t understand how important my photography is to me. Well, I think maybe he’s beginning to, but still, I can’t let myself dream about what-if’s concerning him.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

I don’t have a pet. Living at Heaton House, that’s not possible, but perhaps when I open a shop one day, and have my own place to live, I’ll get one.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’m not sure I want to travel back in time. It’s so exciting here and now, especially for women coming into the workplace! The opportunities are becoming endless. I think I’ll stay right here.
