This week I’m hosting Bonnie S. Calhoun with Lightning (US only) and Lacy Williams with Heart of a Cowgirl (worldwide). If you want to enter the drawings for any of these books, please leave a comment on your post with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (November 1st) evening.
Interview with the heroine from Lightning by Bonnie S. Calhoun
1. Selah, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
The most interesting thing about me is that I’m new every day―literally. I’m a novarium. I’m not actually sure what that means but I’m told by those who are much older and wiser than I, that it is a good thing. I develop new and startling abilities on a regular basis. I’m to be the completion for all my people once I’ve connected to the Third Protocol. Many don’t want that to happen because they fear the change. But none of us know what that change will be.
2. What do you do for fun?
Fun? Gee, I forgot that was a concept anymore. But I do remember back when I was a kid I loved throwing my kapos. Those are small throwing knives that I was very good at using to bring down small game. Yeah, and I’m only 18 now but my carefree childhood feels like a long time ago.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Ugh! I put off taking down my ponytail. My hair is always a tangled mess because it’s long and curly and I’m always snagging it on every tree I pass.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Swimming in the ocean. I love the ocean and I loved to swim when I was young, but one day there wasn’t a shark watcher, and several boys from another Borough ignored our warnings. Well it wasn’t pretty and I see it in my mind’s eye every time I dip a toe in the water.
5. What do you want out of life?
I want to find the Third Protocol and transition in time. If I haven’t transitioned by the time of my 19th birthday, I will fracture. So I guess to have a life I need to find the Third Protocol.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
The most important thing to me has always been my family, from trying to become a Hunter in the family business (which is what started this whole journey), to seeking out my newly revealed, real father, and now hunting for the rest of my family who have suddenly gone missing.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
We don’t very often have the luxury of reading actual paper books but my favorite data glass are the ones that have topical maps or history of the United States. There is so little land left to the country and no one has ever traveled West or came back to tell about it. So I’ve always been interested in the ancient lands and the people that lived on them.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
There are many, many days that I’ve wished I could get this mark below my collarbone to just disappear and let my life go back to what it was, but then I remember my stepfather was about to marry me off to cement an agreement between Boroughs. Now, I’m novarium, and that means “the new thing” so I go through changes every day! Tremors, and flashes and amazing, new abilities pop up on a regular basis.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I love beautiful horses, but I’ve never had the urge to own any animals since I left the family farm.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I go back 150 years and stop them from creating the catalyst that began The Sorrows and literally destroyed this country. But that would change my own timeline so I will have to think on whether that might be a good thing or a bad thing. From what I’ve heard, that period of US history was quite tumultuous.
