Interview with the heroine from Intertwined by Jennifer Slattery

1. Tammy, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Hi, Margaret. Thanks for having me on your blog today. This is my first ever blog interview, and it’s a little… intimidating. As to the most interesting thing about me, that’d have to be my job. I’m an organ procurement coordinator, which means, I work in the organ transplant industry. I absolutely love what I do and seeing God bring life out of death through the gift of donation. But more than that, I love the opportunity He provides for me to share His love and grace to grieving families. I consider it a ministry, really.

2. What do you do for fun?

Does eating ice-cream count as an answer? If I do it with my kiddos and best friend? Unfortunately, right now things are really crazy on the home front, so I don’t have a whole lot of time for personal fun.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Lately… returning my mother’s five hundred phone calls and text messages. Don’t get me wrong; I love my mom. I really do. It’s just she worries, a lot, and right now, more than normal. I know she means well, but some things can’t be fixed with a hug and brownies, you know? Nor can I simply pack up and move with the kids—my mom’s option to the mounting drama in my life.

Although there are days when that options is quite tempting.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Failing as a parent. It’s really hard being a single mom. My career can be very demanding, with unpredictable and long hours, and it can be hard finding reliable and attentive childcare. I’m blessed to have found a great babysitter, a woman who truly loves my kids, but even so, there are many times when I feel I’m forced to choose between my career and my children.

5. What do you want out of life?

I want to make a positive impact on others, and I want to bring hope to grieving families.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

God and my kids, although God and I could probably use more time together. I feel I’ve been living on shout-out prayers for some time now. Praise God for grace!

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

When I have time, absolutely! I love almost every genre and read fiction and non equally. I just finished Five Brides by Eva Marie Everson. Have you read it? It’s delightful! It’s about five women roommates who discover a beautiful dress, one so beautiful, they absolutely must have it, even though none of them have any prospects, at the time, of getting married. And apparently it’s based on a true story!

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’d make myself immune to chocolate-induced weight gain! But on a serious note, I’d be more patient and even-tempered. When I get flustered or overwhelmed, I can say things I regret, and since my job can be incredibly high-stress, well…

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Nope. But if I did, I think I’d like an iguana. My parents had one when I was growing up, and it was the funniest little creature. They let it out of its cage, and it’d roam around in search for a sunny spot. He’d even let us pet him! I’m not sure if he enjoyed being pet, but we liked to think he did.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

This probably won’t be a popular answer, but I like the time period I’m in. I love the advances we’ve seen in modern medicine. To think we can save the life of someone who’s gone into liver failure or needs new lungs! Plus, I’m a big pizza fan. And Netflix.
