Interview with the heroine from Privileged by J.M Downey
1. Katie Morris, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
My mother is an evangelical feminist. She promotes many Biblical feminist concepts. She believes in following the Lord’s will but that a woman is her husband’s partner, not subordinate. She believes that women have the right to work, and follow her own dreams. However, I’m a more submissive person and it is this overt submissiveness that will take me down some interesting paths as I struggle with living up to my mother’s expectations and my innate personality.
2. What do you do for fun?
I read what I call clean romance novels. Aka christian bonnet romances. There is always one in my hands as my author’s editor says. It’s never clearly pointed out, but in one scene I’m reading a Karen Witemyer book.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Sigh. If I told you, I would ruin the book my author wrote. But let’s just say if I had done it, I don’t think the outcome would have been any different for me. Part of me wonders if I was doomed from the beginning.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Being alone. I grew up in a very loving, protective family and when I go to college I find it hard to make friends. I seek them everywhere, but my shy personality makes it hard for me to start conversations and get to know people. I tend to gravitate towards more assertive people and this is an issue I must overcome in my story.
5. What do you want out of life?
I want to be my father. My father is an extremely God-centered man who shepherds many trouble young men into living Godly lives. In order to imitate him, I decide to become a Kindergarten teacher, so I can shape the young minds of children.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
My family. They are the one thing I’d hate to lose most in the world.
7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
I think I’ve already answered this question. But I love clean romance novels. I’m a romantic at heart. I love bonnet romances like Karen Witemyer and Regina Jennings. Light romances. I’m not too fond of my author. Her books are too intense. I wish she had put me in a nice bonnet romance where my hero could have been a ranch owner or nice traveling preacher. Instead I got the son of a man who controls the country. A young man with too many demons in his closet.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would decide that brown eyes are superior to blue eyes. You are probably wondering why I’m saying that, but you need to read the book to find out.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No, no pets. I don’t need anything else to try and protect.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I would have ignored Angel when she said hi. That is where all my troubles began.
