Interview with the hero from A Father’s Second Chance by Mindy Obenhaus

1. Gage Purcell, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

The one thing about me that seems to intrigue most people is that I’m miner by trade. Having grown up in Ouray, Colorado, a community surrounded by abandoned gold and silver mines, I’ve been fascinated with mines all my life.

2. What do you do for fun?

I love hanging out with my two daughters.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Cooking. My skills are pretty much limited to fish sticks, mac and cheese and scrambled eggs.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

That my daughters will be hurt, either physically or emotionally. It was tough on them when their mother left and I refuse to allow anything or anyone to hurt them again.

5. What do you want out of life?

Ideally, I’d love for my daughters to have both a father AND a mother. And I wouldn’t mind knowing that someone had my back.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

To be a good father.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I read a lot of books. Usually ones that have to do with Barbie, princesses or ponies.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

That I would be more open to the prospect of allowing another woman into our lives. But you know what they say, once bitten, twice shy.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

No pets. Though my daughter, Emma, would love a pony.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d love to go back to the height of Ouray’s gold rush and see how the miners worked back then. No doubt it would give me a new appreciation for today’s modern techniques.
