Double Cross

Interview with the heroine from Double Cross by DiAnn Mills:

1. Laurel, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Many people think I’m this contemporary gal with no roots in the past when actually I love bits and pieces of nostalgia. My apartment is a mix of today with old books, collectables (like old opera glasses), stained glass, and antique furniture.

2. What do you do for fun?

I’m an FBI agent by day and a wannabe horse ranch owner by night. Love my Arabian Stallion Phantom. He can be hard to handle at times, but I love his free spirit.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Going to the doctor. Usually I diagnose myself, which isn’t smart in every instance.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

A relationship. Seems like every time I become attached to someone, they die. Tired of being abandoned. Hurts beyond words. The weird thing is what I’m afraid of is also what I want.

5. What do you want out of life?

To rid myself of nightmares and the demons that accuse me of vile things. I tell myself that my parents’ and partner’s deaths weren’t my fault, but I’m not sure I believe it. So the answer is peace, deep soul peace.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Helping others be safe from crime, to see young and old free from fear of becoming victims. Pretty big order, but you asked.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

I enjoy biographies of famous people in history: those who shaped our world for the better and those who were evil, so we can ensure we never make the same mistake again.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Deep sigh here. I’d say the way I shut out others after my parents were killed. No one can live an isolated life and survive. I built a wall around my heart, and it’s still there.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

My Arabian stallion Phantom. Best boyfriend a girl could ever have. I can tell him anything, and he doesn’t argue or offer sage advice.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Back to the night when my parents were killed in a home invasion. I’d have grabbed my dad’s gun and shot them.
