Interview with the heroine from A Question of Destiny by Anita Higman:

1. Lucy O’Brien, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I love life. I love people. I think God has allowed me a window—that is, the ability to see people as what they can be with His help, and not just how they are today. With these “God glasses” so to speak, I’ve been able to do volunteer work with an upbeat attitude as well as forgive my father for abandoning me when I was a child.

2. What do you do for fun?

I love going to the movies with my best friend. I enjoy romantic comedies, but I also adore foreign films like Babette’s Feast.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I love to bake and do crafts, but I hate the cleanup. Doesn’t everybody? I force myself to do it, but I’d much rather create something beautiful or bake something tasty.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

That I will never marry or have a family of my own. I know this is a common fear among young women, and yet recently I broke up with my fiancé. I know it was the right thing to do, but now I find myself being a bit anxious about the future.

5. What do you want out of life?

As I mentioned, I’d love to marry and have a family, but it really does need to be the right man and in God’s good timing. But the wait is anything but easy!

6. What is the most important thing to you?

I would love to see my father again. Whatever drove him away from our little family I wish I could make right. That prayer has been on my lips for many years.

7. Do you read? If so what is your favorite type of book to read?

I like all kinds of books, fiction and non-fiction. My favorite novel is To Kill a Mockingbird.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

I have a goofy side, and so sometimes I’d like to zap that part of my personality. Hopefully, though, I make up for my silliness by being sincere and loyal.

9. Do you have a pet? What is it and why that pet?

I don’t have a pet right now, but I’m thinking about getting a beagle. To me, those dogs have a lot of cute factor, and they are the friendliest.

10. If you could travel back into time where would you go and why?

Maybe the 1950’s, because to me it was a fascinating time in American history. But I would only want a brief visit. I wouldn’t want to stay very long. As my mom would say, “Living too much in the past and dreaming too much about the future can sabotage the present!”
