If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (Nov. 23rd) evening.

510WzK3+hXLInterview with the hero from Buttermilk Sky by Jan Watson:

1. The most interesting thing: “Let me think. No one has ever asked me that before. I suppose the most interesting thing about me is that I have a twin sister, Molly. And oh, my other sister, Lilly, is a doctor. My sisters are beautiful and accomplished.”

2. What do you do for fun? “I’ve just moved to Lexington which is a BIG city. I am from Skip Rock, a town so little it is not even on the map! So, being here is fun because it is so different. There are stores with dresses and hats displayed on mannequins in the windows. Back home, Mrs. Tippen made most of my dresses. I’m not saying she didn’t do s good job, but Mrs. Tippen surely liked gingham.”

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it? “It is worse than dread. I HATE to practice typing! My fingers jam up the keys. But Lilly says I must learn a trade—so here I am in secretarial school.”

4. What are you afraid of most in life? “This may sound shallow to some, but I’m afraid people won’t like me. I’m also afraid I’ll never learn shorthand (which is a BIG bore).”

5. What do you want out of life? “My sister says I have to be able to support myself. She says it is 1913, and times are changing for women. I want to be as strong as Lilly.”

6. What is the most important thing to you? “More than any other thing I want to please the Lord. I call the Bible my instruction book. There’s lots of good stuff inside those pages.”

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book? “Have you read “Elsie Dinsmore” by Martha Finley? Oh, that book makes me laugh and cry and laugh again. I would love to write a book like that some day. That’s one reason I decided to learn typing.”

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? “My hair drives be batty. It’s blonde and curly and makes me look like I’m about twelve. Last year, I tried to straighten it with a concoction I read about in a magazine. What didn’t fall out frizzed like a dandelion gone to seed! I looked like a clown.”

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet? “I love animals. Mrs. Pearl (who runs the boarding house where I live) has a mother cat and a bunch of kittens. They are dear little things. I skim the cream from the top of the milk bottles and put it in a saucer for them.”

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? “I don’t think I would like to travel back in time. I’d be afraid I’d miss what is happening here.”
