1. Gage Fontaine, tell me the most interesting thing about you?

I’m a treasure hunter and wreck diver. Did you know there are nearly three million ships lying on the seafloor? That’s a lot of treasure to hunt down, and I’m the man to do it.

2. What do you do for fun?

See Number One…just kidding. But seriously, I spend my days sailing from sea to sea. It is a lot of if hard work, but also the joy of my life.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Probably making friends. Sure, I can be the life of the party, but when I set sail, I’ll never see those people again, so why get attached?

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Losing my ship. The Getaway is the only home I’ve ever known. I would be lost—on land— without her.

5. What do you want out of life?

To bring people hope. I’m not a missionary, but I have a cargo of Bibles, and you should see the faces of people light up when I come into port and offer them one. I probably looked the same when someone handed me my first Bible a few years back.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Besides my boat? Laughter. Only, the laugh lines I’ve incurred over the years make for poor suction with my diver’s mask, and that can cause problems in the deep blue sea. Big problems.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Many an evening is spent reading on deck beneath purple and tangerine skies. I typically go for the adventure stories, and I could definitely write a few of my own. Perhaps I’ll try my hand at writing when I’m not navigating my sails.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

To put an end to the running. Fifteen years has been too long, and I’m a changed man now. When does the past cease its chase? But then, I haven’t tried to stop it, either. Maybe a part of me thinks I deserve the reminder of what I’ve done.

9. Do you have a pet?

Ha-Ha! You probably thought I have a talking parrot on my shoulder. I hate to disappoint, but nope, no parrots and no pets.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d set sail for that fateful port, where I foolhardily signed on with a bunch of sea criminals. Modern-day piracy is real, and these aren’t your ‘shimmy-me-timbers’ Hollywood types with a broken compass and a one-shot pistol. These are your deadly Uzi-toting types with state-of-the-art tracking equipment. And I think they just tracked me down…
