16 LSH medium2Interview with the hero from Lone Star Heiress by Winnie Griggs:

1. Mitch Parker, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I guess most people would say it’s my size. I’m 6’6” in height and have broad shoulders, so my appearance is considered intimidating by some. I know it was at least partly responsible for Miss Feagan’s startled reaction when I came up on her unexpectedly in the woods. She sure had me worried when she fell of the log she was standing on and knocked herself out.

2. What do you do for fun?

I like to sketch. But it’s nothing fancy, certainly nothing I’d show to anyone, but I find it relaxing. Oh and I like to fish as well.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Actually, one of the reasons I left town to spend a week alone in my friend’s isolated cabin was to get away from a flibbertigibbet widow lady who’s been unrelentingly pursuing me. I am definitely NOT looking to get married again. Strange though, how Miss Feagan’s unexpected presence is not nearly as burdensome as I would have thought it would be.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

That I will let my pride and temper get away with me again and that it will have the same tragic result that it did in the past.

5. What do you want out of life?

To make peace with my past.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

To live an honorable life.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I’m a schoolteacher, so of course I read. I’m always looking for new ways to engage my students. When I’m just reading for pleasure I like the works of Shakespeare and of Mark Twain. Two very different writers, but I find myself drawn to both men.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’ve watched the other three men I traveled to Turnabout with find love and start families, and I find myself envying their new-found happiness.   But the isolation I live in is self-imposed and I plan to stand firm on my vow not to marry again.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

No, I don’t have a pet at the moment. I had a dog when I was growing up, a collie. He was a great companion.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I would go back to the day my wife died and change the things I did that led to her death.
