Until I Found You SmallInterview with the hero: Nick Sheridan from Until I Found You by Victoria Bylin

1. Nick Sheridan, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I’m a working journalist and the author of a travel guide called California for Real Men. It came out awhile ago, but the chapter called “For Daredevils Only” still gets a lot of reader response. What guy doesn’t want to take a chance or two? But my life changed . . . the biggest risk I ever took was jumping off a cliff called Faith and becoming a Christian.

2. What do you do for fun?

If life was so chaotic right now, I’d take a long motorcycle ride with Kate right behind me. The California back roads are full of twists and turns, especially in the Los Padres National Forest where we live. With a little luck, we’d spot a California condor riding the thermals out near the Bitter Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. Those birds have nine-foot wingspans and are just plain magnificent.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I’m not much of a procrastinator. My weakness is doing too much too soon. That’s why I took a year off from dating when I first became a Christian. I have to tell you, that was an awful idea. I met Kate at the six-month mark and knew almost immediately that she was the right woman for me. But she needed time to find her spiritual footing. Going slow runs against my nature, but with Kate it paid off in the end.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

5. What do you want out of life?

Everything. I don’t want to waste a minute of this precious gift. That passion comes from knowing that life is short, and from taking some crazy chances while writing California for Real Men. While researching the book, I went sky-diving, bull-riding and drove way too fast just to experience the thrill. That urge got kicked out of me, but I’m still a risk-taker when it comes to matters of faith.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

My faith. I became a Christian the hard way–by hitting bottom and facing my own insignificance.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Adventure. Sci-Fi. Anything with a lot of action.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Don’t tell anyone, but I’d like to be more like my older brother. Sam’s the smartest guy I know.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

No pets right now because I travel a lot. But someday I’d like a big lazy dog.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Tough choice! Being a knight in shining armor appeals to me, so how about Camelot?
