I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (Mar. 23rd) evening.

Dark Tide by Susan SleemanInterview with the hero from Dark Tide by Susan Sleeman:

1. Derrick Justice, tell me the most interesting thing about you. Probably the most interesting thing about me is that I live in a floating home. You may have heard of houseboats but wonder what a floating home is. Technically my home could be called a houseboat, but size generally distinguishes a floating home from a houseboat. Larger size homes like mine are considered floating homes. Mine is two stories with three bedrooms and three baths. Basically, it’s just like your normal kind of house, except you don’t want to sleep walk and take a wrong turn in the night from the deck. J Once my adopted daughter Sophia starts walking, I’m certain I’ll be moving, but it’s been great living on the river.

2.  What do you do for fun? I like to fish for salmon. The Pacific Northwest it the perfect place for it so you can find me on Oregon’s Rogue River in March for the spring run of Chinooks. That is, if my new wife, Gina agrees to let me go. Hah!

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it? Oh, wow. Just one thing, huh? I’m not so good with the cleaning thing. Not just my house, but my car, my fishing boat. You get the picture.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life? Afraid of. Hmm, not sure there’s anything I’m really afraid of anymore. I mean, I was kinda worried for a while that I wasn’t going to find a woman to spend my life with, but now that I’ve reconnected with Gina, that fear is gone.

5.  What do you want out of life? I’m a simple kind of guy. Let me stay in Oregon and keep working with my brothers and sisters in the Justice Agency, let Gina and I have a few more children to be siblings for Sophia and my life is complete.

6.  What is the most important thing to you? Hands down, family. My parents were killed in a car crash when I was a teenager, then my adoptive parents were murdered a few years back so I value family more than anything. And I love that I have four adopted siblings, all married now, some expecting children of their own and we come together for these big family gatherings.

7.  Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book? I read about fishing. Kind of all the time. Never know what you can learn to improve your ability to catch the big one, you know? Oh yeah, and since I became a dad I’ve been reading parenting books. Not as much as Gina though. She’s an expert.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I’m a little focused with being on time. Okay, maybe a little is an understatement. I’m trying to get better at relaxing and going with the flow and Gina’s helping me with that. As is being a dad. I mean, kids never do things on schedule, now do they?

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet? No pets. Gina thinks all kids need a pet and lately she’d been trying to talk me into getting a puppy for Sophia. Maybe kids need pets. I’m not sure yet. Do dogs go fishing? I wouldn’t mind having a fishing buddy and that might sway my mind completely. For obvious, reasons I couldn’t consider a cat for this.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? As a former police detective, I’ve always been fascinated by the Kennedy assassination. I’d like to go back to Dallas. Not to see the event as it was such a traumatic day for our country, but to the time just after to see how the investigating detectives handled the investigation.
