I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (Mar. 2nd) evening.

COVER 1Interview with the heroine from The Cowboy Takes a Wife by Davalynn Spencer:

1.  Annie Whitaker, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

Interesting? Ha – my sister, Edna, would call it infuriating, but I refuse to sit by and wait for some man to come along and make my life better when I can do that myself. That’s why I left with Daddy when he headed west, to help him set up his new mercantile in Cañon City.

2.  What do you do for fun?

About all I have time for lately is going down to the river and walking through the shallows in my bare feet. (Edna would be scandalized.) And sneaking dried apples to Nell, the one horse Daddy kept after we got to Cañon City. Sometimes the new stable hand, Caleb Hutton, is there when I stop by, and well, he just piques my interest a bit. There’s more to him than he’s telling.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it?

To be honest, I’m a bit headstrong and usually rush in to something without putting enough thought into it. It would probably do me some good if I hesitated a bit more. But about the only thing I really dread is laundry, and you just can’t put that off.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life?

Being alone.

5.  What do you want out of life?

I want to be accepted for whom I am, and I’m not like most, especially not like Edna with her full bosom and alabaster skin and perfectly obedient flaxen hair.

6.  What is the most important thing to you?

Unconditional love. That’s what I have for Daddy, and I know that’s what the good Lord has for me. But wouldn’t it be nice to find it in someone you might spend your life with?

7.  Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

All I’ve been reading lately is catalogues from back east so we’ll have everything in our mercantile that people around here want.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Just one thing? When I have a whole list? Well, I’d have to say it would be my unruly hair. It never does what I want it to and is always falling out of its pins.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Our draft horse, Nell, is the closest thing I have to a pet even though she’s no pet at all. She makes me feel like I have something from back home to care for and love on other than Daddy. But he says he’s going to sell her to save the money we spend on her at the livery. My, but she goes through the hay. You’d think she was eating for two horses.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I would go back and meet my mother before she died. Daddy says I’m just like her.
