1. Katie Lapp, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

This is a very hard question. The Amish aren’t taught to think of themselves. We are raised to be united and loyal to our group. But if I had to have a moment of pride, I would have to say that I make very, very good pies.

2. What do you do for fun?

For those of you who know my story, it has been a long time since I’ve had “fun”. But these days being with Joshua, reminiscing about our youth, sitting together at the pond fishing, sharing an evening’s conversation—all of this is fun.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I am not fond of mucking stalls.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Sometimes I remember how frightening it was when someone was trying to force me off my land. Even though it is settled now, I still jump at shadows or flinch by fire.

5. What do you want out of life?

I want as many kinner that God will bless me with. I want to be a good wife and a good mother and a devout follower of the Lord. Nothing is more important, ya?

6. What is the most important thing to you?

The Lord and my family

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

There is little time to read. The day flies by with chores. But when I do read, it is the Bible. After all, it has everything, romance, drama, comedy. It is the best book.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

That I would have been braver and acted sooner. Maybe if I had I would have been able to get help for Jacob.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

No. Animals serve a purpose on an Amish farm. They earn their keep the same as we do. But I must admit I have a fondness for one of the mares. She has the gentlest nature and softest eyes.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Back to my teenage years. Back when we were young and innocent and Jacob and Joshua and I were the best of friends. If I could go back in time knowing what I know now, life would have been very different for all of us.
