Interview with the heroine from A Family for Christmas by Winnie Griggs:
1.Eve Pickering, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Well, let’s see, I suppose it’s the fact that I’m pretty good at making candy.
2. What do you do for fun?
Fun is not something I’ve had a lot of time for in my life.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
My motto is, if something needs doing, then it’s better to do it sooner than later, so I don’t put things off.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
That the circumstances of my birth will shadow my life, and how others view me, forever
5. What do you want out of life?
To find a place where I can feel a true sense of acceptance and belonging. I’m beginning to think that maybe Turnabout is that place. I’ve never had friends before, and now I’ve got several, and they really do seem to like me. But will they feel the same if the learn my secrets?
6. What is the most important thing to you?
Not to disappoint people.
7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
I really do enjoy reading but I haven’t had much access to books outside of school. I was very excited to learn that Turnabout actually has a library where I can get my hands on some books – assuming I stick around here long enough.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would like to have had a chance to meet my mother.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No, pets were not allowed in my grandmother’s home or on her place. Every critter there had to serve a purpose, had to earn its keep.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
There is no time during my own lifetime that I would want to relive. But if I could go back beyond that, I’d like to travel back to a time when I could meet my mother as a young woman and try to understand what happened to lead her to abandon me.
