Hero Interview from Riptide by Elizabeth Goddard:
1. Jake Jacobson, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I was a pilot for a commercial airline but then I started working for my brother, Connor Jacobson, in the high-stakes repo business. Considering some of the places we have to travel and the kind of people we are up against, my new job is pretty much a thrill ride. My first venture into this with Connor, we took a Learjet from the jungles in Belize from a Colombian drug-lord. It was wild and dangerous and I couldn’t go back to my job as a commercial pilot after that experience. No way. Someone’s gotta protect Connor. J
2. What do you do for fun?
Ah, I might have just given the answer away up above. But in addition to traveling the world, I love to spend time boating. I love the blue horizon that seems to extend forever when you’re at sea.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
For too long, I’d put off settling down. I hated the idea of commitment and love and what that could do to a person if things went south. I’ve seen it first hand with my parents when my father died. Why put yourself through that? So I put off growing attached to any one woman, that is, until Kelsey Chambers came along and then I had no choice. Except, that went south, too. So yeah, I still dread commitment, still put it off.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Losing someone I love. Who isn’t afraid of that? A close second would be an alien invasion of the world. That flat terrifies me.
5. What do you want out of life?
I wish I could say something more interesting like I’d love a big house or a shiny sports car or even world peace. Though now that I’ve said it that doesn’t sound interesting at all. Or I wish I could say I want something less shallow, like just to serve the Lord and the ability to love and take care of a family. But before I can get any of that, I’d like to redeem myself for my bad behavior in earlier years. I’d like to prove to my brothers that I’m an upstanding citizen, someone they can respect and trust.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
I never thought I’d say this, or even care, but I want my family to see me as someone other than reckless. My reputation has now become important, that and winning back Kelsey’s trust.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
I love spy novels. Love Vince Flynn books.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wish I could be a hero like my brothers.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I’d love to get into falconry, own a falcon or two. But I’d have to settle down in a big way to take care of a pet. Falcons are birds of prey that can fly at super high speeds.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d go back to that beach on Hawaii the day I first met Kelsey Chambers. The day and the next few weeks that I first fell in love with her. I’d make sure I did everything right so I wouldn’t lose her, or give her a reason to distrust me. I’d never let her go.
