Deception_w4966_300Interview from Deception by Lillian Duncan:

Interview with the hero—Carter Caldwell

 1. Carter, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I’m afraid I’m not a very interesting person. Some people think my job is interesting. I’m a detective for the Palm Beach Police Department. I suppose it has its moments.

 2. What do you do for fun?

Am I allowed to say my job is fun? It’s may not be fun in a typical way, but I enjoy it so that should count as fun.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Cleaning. It doesn’t matter what kind of cleaning, I hate it. Cleaning my house. Cleaning my office at work. My boss is always after me to clean my office. I don’t know why it bothers him so much. It doesn’t bother me.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Failing. When I fail at my job, people can die. That is a powerful motivator to do all that I can do for each case I work. Some people think I get too involved, but really how can I not get involved? God wants each of us to live a life of excellence and that includes our jobs.

5. What do you want out of life?

I want what everyone wants. People to love and to be loved by. When my first wife died in the line of duty, I thought I would never love again. I was wrong. God brought Patti into my life. She taught me that I could love again.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

To live a life of integrity and excellence. If I can do that I’ll feel as if I lived a life that honors God.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Oddly enough, I read fantasy and science fiction type books. They transport me to another place and time. I definitely don’t read true crime books. I get enough of that in real life!

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I need to get healthier. I try to get to the gym regularly, but it always seems as if something come up.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

No pet—too busy with me job to give a dog the type of attention they want and deserve. And I’m not a cat person. Of course, now that Patti’s in my life, I might rethink the whole having a pet thing.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go back to July 4, 1776 and ask Thomas Jefferson and the others if they really meant for God to be kicked out of the schools and the rest of society. I don’t think they did, but I could be wrong.
