This week I’m hosting Pam Meyers with Love Finds You in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Cynthia Ruchti with When the Morning Glory Blooms, and Ginger Garrett with Reign. If you want to enter the drawings for the books, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (April 21st) evening.

When Morning Glory BloomsBecause When the Morning Glory Blooms covers three eras with three heroines and three heroes, I’ll choose the present day’s heroine to interview.

Interview with the heroine from When the Morning Glory Blooms by Cynthia Ruchti:

 1. Becky, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I worked for a high profile magazine, and loved my job, until I left it to take care of a family situation. Oh, listen to me. The “situation” is my gorgeous grandson. His mom can’t afford daycare because she’s still in high school. What else could I do? So my mind is designing magazine layouts I may never get to implement while my hands are changing dirty diapers and wondering where the line is between helping and enabling. That may not be the most interesting thing about me, but it’s what occupies my thoughts and attention right now.

 2. What do you do for fun?

My friend Monica has talked me into getting more fit. She thinks it’s fun. The music from her beloved exercise videos sounds like “It’s a Small World After All” in my ears. I love to travel. That’s what I used to do for fun. But my husband’s the one traveling now for work. The farthest I’ve been since our daughter became a mother is Costco for the Jumbotron-size box of disposable diapers. Monica would cringe if she heard me say that. For her, cloth was the only way to go, if you get the double meaning. She’s still on my case about resorting to a pacifier for my grandson.

 3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Sometimes I get a buildup of items that need to be hauled from the main floor to the basement. I don’t know if any one else does that. There’s nothing wrong with our basement, exactly. It’s just one of those household chores that seems too trivial to tackle until it’s too big to ignore. Huh. There’s a lesson there, I suppose.

 4. What are you afraid of most in life?

After what happened to my son, I’d have to say that the fear of losing a child, of losing a relationship with my daughter Lauren rises to the top of the things that rattle me. That, and fearing that Lauren will make more life-altering lousy decisions, like marrying for the wrong reasons.

 5. What do you want out of life?

A little peace would be nice. Life seems so upended right now. Nothing is as it should be. Nothing. Peace…and a pedicure.

 6. What is the most important thing to you?

The pedicure answer made me sound shallow. I’m not. My faith is very important to me. Underneath all my fussing is a deep, abiding, core belief that God sees what’s going on and cares. All around me is evidence that He hasn’t abandoned us. I think I need to take a deep breath and let that truth soak in.

7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

I haven’t had much time to read lately. But when I did, I spent a lot of time analyzing other magazine layouts and styles. I enjoyed it, and it kept my creative side sharp.

 8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Easy answer. I’d like to switch body types with Monica. I’m not vindictive or anything, but it would be nice if I were the one encouraging her to eat smarter and get moving. Out of love, mind you. Wait a minute. Change one thing? Scratch the body type idea. I’d change into someone who knows what she’s doing as the mom of a teen mom. Final answer.

 9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Who has time for a pet? Someday…when this all settles down…

 10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d travel back in time to five minutes before I found Lauren’s pregnancy test. No. See? I can’t get that answer right either! What would I do without that beautiful grandson with the denim-blue eyes? Excuse me, I think he’s letting me know his nap is officially over.
