perf5.500x8.500.inddInterview with the hero from Terri: Women of Valley View by Sharon Srock:

1. Steve Evans, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I think the most interesting thing about me is the wonderful work of redemption Christ has worked in my life. He erased the five years I lost to drug addiction and gave me a second chance with my family.

2. What do you do for fun?

I spend time with my family. I have 10 years of lost time to make up for. I want to experience all the things I missed out on as my daughters were growing up without me.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I’m a writer, so I think I’m like most of our breed. Once I get into a story, it’s all good, but starting a new one…staring at that first blank piece of paper…I’ll research, outline, plan, and contemplate for some time before I put the first word on the first word on the first sheet.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

I still wake up in cold sweat some nights worried about where my daughters are. The thought of losing them again haunts me.

5. What do you want out of life?

I’d like a chance to start over. Not just with Samantha and Iris, but a new family. I’m still young enough to think about getting remarried and raising more babies. Hopefully God will give me that chance.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

To be the father God wants me to be. I messed that up pretty good a decade ago. I have another chance now and I don’t intend to waste it.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

My office is jammed with books. I research so much that I don’t have time for a lot of pleasure reading, but when I do, it’s usually legal thrillers or courtroom dramas.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

No matter how successful I am, no matter the chance I’ve been given, the stigma of drug addict is always close at hand. If I could change anything it would be to reclaim those years.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

We have a blonde lab puppy named Angel. She was a gift for Iris and my granddaughter Bobbie. When I found my daughters and bought the house, I was so desperate for them to give me chance in their lives…bribery seemed like a good idea.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

Not as far as you might think. I’d go back just far enough to have a conversation with my deceased wife, Lee Ann. I’d like to have the chance to tell her that I was sorry, and that I’m taking care of the girls.
