Interview with the hero from Invisible by Ginny Yttrup:
1. Dr. Miles Becker, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I’m a widower. Maybe that’s not too interesting, but since losing Sarah, it seems to define me.
2. What do you do for fun?
Golf. Kind of cliché for a doctor, I suppose. But there’s nothing like the feel of a sea breeze on your face and the sound of a club smacking a ball.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
I can’t say I put it off, but I don’t like taking care of dead rodents. When a rat dies in the wall of a house, the stench is horrible—so it has to be taken care of right away. But I don’t enjoy it.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
I’m afraid of falling in love again. Before she died, Sarah made me promise I’d continue living even if she died. But I fear taking the risk of losing someone again. I’m a healer, but I can’t control the fate of those I love.
5. What do you want out of life?
I want to love the people in my life well. At the end of my life, I want to hear my Savior say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
6. What is the most important thing to you?
First and foremost, my relationship with Christ. After that, my relationships with my children, my friends, and my patients.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
I read a lot of medical journals, but for relaxation, I like the Christian classics—George MacDonald, Charles Spurgeon, C.S. Lewis.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Hmm… Good question. I’m tempted to say I’d like to change my inability to heal my terminally ill patients. But, I learned the hard way, with my wife, that God is the only One who has that power. And that’s as it should be, even though it’s hard to accept sometimes.
So, I don’t know… Maybe I’d change my name. Dr. Miles Becker sounds like a character in a soap opera.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No pets. Though, I’m considering buying Ellyn a kitten to take care of her rat problem.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d love to walk the earth when Christ did—to follow Him—to have observed and learned from Him. Can you imagine?
