This week I’m hosting  Mary Moore with Beauty in Disguise, Georgiana Daniels with A Daughter’s Redemption, and Margaret Daley with Countdown to First Night.  If you want to enter the drawings for the books, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (January 6th) evening.

What is First Night?

First Night is a celebration in some cities at the New Year. In Snowfalls, Colorado (not a real town) we (Jillian Hart, Brenda Minton and myself) built First Night around the family. The events are for the whole family–children friendly. It is a place where the arts are celebrated, where children participate in various artistic activities and having fun. It has been described as “the family friendly New Year’s Eve party.” This started overseas and now many places in the United States are having a First Night Celebration.

I love the idea of a family celebrating New Year’s Eve together, especially with activities like painting, dancing, theater, playing games and arts and crafts. In my story some of the things the kids and parents could do were go to a play of a children book (my heroine, Ellie Summers’ book), go through a snow maze, watch ice sculpturing, participate in an art lesson from an artist (my hero who illustrates books) and of course, fireworks at midnight.

If you were planning a First Night Celebration in your town, what are some fun activities you would plan for families?
