Interview with the hero: Captain Daniel Sundberg
Book: Threads of Faith by Andrea Boeshaar
1. Captain, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
As the story Threads of Faith begins, readers will learn that it’s 1878 and I’ve been sailing the vast oceans for years. I pride myself as one of the youngest sea captains in the world.
2. What do you do for fun?
I think about and implement new ways to earn more money.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Social engagements, especially when they involve the countess to whom I plan to become engaged.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
I fear returning to Manitowoc, Wisconsin and the small farm on which I was raised. Hard work and nothing glamorous about it. My father abandoned his aspirations at my mother’s insistence, which I always thought a shame, and then America’s Civil War took my favorite Uncle Jack and I vowed then that I’d live my life to the fullest — and not on that farm, either.
5. What do you want out of life?
I want to be rich and live among society’s wealthy and privileged.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
I want to become a very important and very rich man.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
I dislike reading for pleasure, although I do enjoy business journals and newspapers.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
What’s to change?
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I suppose the countess could be considered my pet — a beautiful feline.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I’d go back to when I was a young boy — before the war came and Uncle Jack was killed. I’d encourage Poppa to pursue his dreams of politics and I’d tell Mor to mind her own business. I’d enjoy Uncle Jack’s company and I sit on my Grandfather Sundberg’s knee and listen to all the stories about how Poppa negotiated settlements between the government and the Menomonie Indians.
