This week I’m hosting Judy Christie with Downtown Green, Kathi Macias with Special Delivery, Sharon Dunn with Broken Trust, and Alyssa Liljequist with Deadly Delirium (ebook).  If you want to enter the drawings for the books, please leave a comment on one of the post during the week with your email address. I will not enter you without an email address (my way to contact you if you win). If you don’t want to leave an email address, another way you can enter is to email me at margaretdaley@gmail.com. The drawings end Sunday (March 18th) evening.

Interview with the heroine (from Downtown Green by Judy Christie):

1. Lois Barker Craig, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I’m a big-city journalist who wound up running a newspaper in the small town of Green, Louisiana.  A tornado hit town the day I married my part-time catfish farmer and coach husband, and that pretty much captures the whirlwind that is my life.

2. What do you do for fun?

My husband, new baby, our four dogs (yes, four!) and I walk in the evenings on the country road where we live. And I have a great time with my best friend, Dr. Kevin, and her adopted son, Asa. I love antiques and sitting in the porch swing, too.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I don’t like confrontations, but I seem to have them all the time.  I try to put off butting into a situation, but that seldom works — which is how we wound up owning the Bayou Freez Drive-In.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life?

Funny thing, that. I used to be afraid of dogs. I once was bitten on the face by the mayor’s dog, but that was a good thing because it interrupted an altercation with two bad men.  I guess now I’m most afraid of one day having to leave the wonderful town of Green.

5.  What do you want out of life?

I want to roll up my sleeves and help make this community better – and to have fun with my husband and baby while I’m at it. These days that means making a go of the Bayou Freez Drive-In. I very much want to create the kind of spot where people gather and eat and laugh and enjoy being together.

6.  What is the most important thing to you?

My family, my friends at Grace Chapel and my newspaper – and soft serve ice cream. I’ve learned that it’s people and not things that matter. My wonderful old cottage was blown away during the tornado, and I thought that would devastate me – but I realized that with Chris’s love, the building didn’t matter. I want to help build Green into the kind of town where our child can thrive.

7.  Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

I don’t have time to read books but I read every word of “The Green News-Item” and several other Louisiana papers. I’m reading a lot of articles on how to revitalize a downtown area.  And I read the Bible; my husband and Pastor Jean have helped me learn how important that is.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d be more patient, and I’d be a better cook. I know that’s two things, but I have lots of issues to work on.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
A Yorkie terrier named Holly Beth, given to me by the mayor as a wedding present – plus three dogs that came with my husband (Mannix, Kramer and Markey).

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go back to the days before my mother died and pay more attention to her … and let her know how blessed my life is. I wish she could meet her new grandchild.
