Interview with the heroine from Replication by Jill Williamson:
Abby, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I’d like to be a crime scene investigator. I audit college courses whenever I can to prepare for college. My uncle works for the police in Philadelphia, and he said he’d give me a tour of the precinct and write me a recommendation for college.
What do you do for fun?
I used to hang out with my friends from youth group and do teen activities with my church, but now that I’ve moved, I spend most my time reading Forensics Magazine or CRS Quarterly (which is Creation Research Society’s quarterly journal). I really need to make some new friends.
What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Dating. I don’t really believe in dating because I think most guys are not ready to date and messing around with love could break my heart and I don’t need more heartache in my life. But I like boys, and I think if I met the right boy and we had lots in common and he loved God, I’d like to go on a date with him, or even hang out in a group. But I know my dad would freak out. I don’t know what it is about Dad and seeing me with any male my age, but he loses it. He goes crazy. So I’m always really careful not to talk to boys when my dad is around. It’s just easier. I don’t know how I’ll ever tell him if I decide to get married someday.
What are you afraid of most in life?
Not knowing the answer to something, which is dumb, I know, because there is lots I don’t know. Still, I like having an answer for everything I believe. You know, the 1 Peter 3:15 thing? “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” I worry that someday, someone will put me on the spot in regards to science and my faith and I’ll totally fail and make God look bad. I know that’s silly. God doesn’t rely on me for his PR, but I still worry about it, you know?
What do you want out of life?
I’d really like to be a crime scene investigator for a big city police department. I don’t really care what city, but I’d like to stay close to where my dad lives, since it’s just him and me. And I want to get married to someone who loves God as much as I do and who doesn’t mind a wife who has a career. Really, I just want to make a difference in everything I do, to use the gifts God has given me in the very best way.
What is the most important thing to you?
Doing my best in everything.
Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
I read lots. My favorite type of book to read is any book on the topic of creation science.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My intensity. I think it sometimes freaks people out a bit. I wish I could be more easy going and laid back—not freak out when I get a B on an assignment at school—but it’s really hard to change our habits, isn’t it? Anyway, I’d also like to do better at seeing things from other people’s points of view. I often judge people who think different from me, and I don’t mean to. I wish I didn’t do that.
Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
I do! Einstein is my cat. He’s a Silver Persian and I love him! He’s so soft and cuddly… even his purr comforts me.
If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
I would go back to creation and watch God create the earth so that I could witness one of the things I care so much about. And let’s face it: wouldn’t that be an amazing thing to witness?
