Interview with Phoebe Miller of An Amish Family Reunion by Mary Ellis:

1.Phoebe, tell me the most interesting thing about you. I suppose that I met the perfect man for me, a master storyteller. Now, if only I can convince him of how perfect we would be together.

2.  What do you do for fun? Sketching, I take my tablet up in the high country and spend hours drawing anything that catches my fancy.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it? Telling my father that I want a career instead of just marriage and a family. He’s very old-fashioned as most Old Order Amish fathers are.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life? Heights—growing up on a farm, I never realized I was until I traveled to Niagara Falls. Looking down at the surging rapids far below from an observation platform terrified me and made me dizzy.

5.  What do you want out of life? I want to illustrate children’s books. God gave each of us a gift—I want to use mine to reach the hearts of little ones.

6.  What is the most important thing to you? Until Eli Riehl came along, I’d have to say my relationship with my stepmother. I never thought anyone could take the place of my mom in my heart following her death, but Hannah truly has.

7.  Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read? I love to read tales of adventurous women, especially from bygone eras, and what they accomplished despite incredible odds.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I hate being so shy. I would love to walk into a room with plenty to talk about and the guts to say what’s on my mind.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet? I have a pet rescue horse that lives in the pasture next door. I bring her apples and carrots every day and she runs to see me as fast as her thirty-year-old legs will carry her.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? I would travel back one hundred years to the day that brave schoolteacher went over Niagara Falls and survived. I would love to see the look on her face when they pried off the lid to her wooden barrel.
