Interview with the hero from This Time for Keeps by K. Dawn Byrd:

1.  Chase, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

It might be interesting to some people, but it’s down right embarrassing. I suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, left over from my stint in the military.

2.  What do you do for fun?

I live on a ranch and raise horses. Have some cattle too, but especially love the horses.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it?

I didn’t exactly put it off. My wife was going through some extensive cancer treatments outside of the country when my mother passed away unexpectedly. I struggled with what to do and I just knew my mother would want me to remain with my wife. So, I put off settling my mother’s estate. After my wife passed away, I returned to town, the place I’d fled ten years ago leaving my first love, India McGuire, without even as much as a goodbye.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life?

Nothing scares me. I’ve heard it all, seen it all, and done it all…most of it while in the military. I’d lived a rough life and done a lot of things I’m not proud of, things I won’t mention to your sweet readers.

5.  What do you want out of life?

My wife and I weren’t exactly together when she passed away. Let me explain. We’d separated and she was living with another man when she found out that she had cancer. He didn’t want to deal with it and she moved out. She had no one to care for her, so I allowed her to move back on the ranch where I took care of her until she passed away. That said, the romance between us was long gone. We were just friends. Now that I’ve came back to town and took a look at India McGuire, I realize that I let the love of my life slip through my fingers. I’m hoping more than anything that we can reconcile.

6.  What is the most important thing to you?

The most important thing to me is getting some closure on my relationship or lack of one with India. I left town ten years ago after my best friend died in a car accident. You see, I didn’t take the keys and I’ve always blamed myself. Now that I’m back in town, I won’t leave again until India and I are together or until she tells me once and for all that we’ll never be together.

7.  Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I don’t have much time for reading. Running a ranch as large as mine is a lot of hard work.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I wish I’d never left town ten years ago. I wish I’d stayed, married India, and built a life with her.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

I have a couple of dogs that help round up the horses and cattle. And, of course, there’s the horses, if you can call them pets.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I’d go back to the day I left town ten years ago and I’d stay. I was a coward for leaving.
