Interview with the heroine from Love Finds You in Sundance, Wyoming:

1.  Angel Ramirez, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I’m not sure how interesting it is, but I know it’s probably not something most young women have done. I’m a crack shot with a rifle and not too bad with a pistol, as well. I was raised in an outlaw band by my uncle, so he thought it a good idea to shoot and ride as well as any of the men—better than most, truth be told, but I’m not one to brag.

2.  What do you do for fun?

My favorite thing is to take a ride on Bella, my Spanish-Arabian mare, out into the hill country of Wyoming. I know, I spend hours in the saddle tracking varmints that pull down the calves, but I still love the feel of the wind in my hair, and a strong horse cantering across the plains. There’s nothing like the peace that comes when you spend time alone on horseback.

3.  What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Of my, that’s easy. I’m a horrible cook, and have no desire to learn. If it weren’t for the ranch cook I’d probably starve, although I can make a decent pot of coffee over the fire and can fry a steak if I’m pressed. But don’t ask me to bake. No sir.

4.  What are you afraid of most in life?

I think having the people I’m coming to care about at the ranch find out how I was raised. I’m afraid they’d not think me a decent woman and might turn me away. And then there’s Bart Hinson, an outlaw who had his eye on me before I ran away. I can’t say as I’m scared of him, but I’d sure hate to get in a shooting scrape with him if he ever finds me.

5.  What do you want out of life?

To find a home that’s mine, not just move from ranch to ranch working for someone else.

6.  What is the most important thing to you?

Family. I had to leave my uncle behind when I escaped from the band, and my parents are dead. I’d give anything to have a family of my own, but I can’t see it happening. I can’t stay too long in one place these days.

7.  Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?

I haven’t had a lot of chance to read. My mother started teaching me before she died when I was young and my uncle continued, but we didn’t own many books. It’s something I might enjoy given the chance, but honestly, I’d rather be outside on my horse.

8.  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’m a good shot and a fair hand with the horses, but I guess I’d like it if I could be a little more feminine. I was raised mostly by men, and rough women. I remember my mother and a few things she taught me, but I haven’t worn a dress since I was nine. Maybe someday I can quit running and dressing like a man.

9.  Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

Well, I wouldn’t call my horse a pet, but she’s an animal, so I guess that’s close. Some of the men in the outlaw band had dogs, since they’d raise the alarm if anyone got close that didn’t belong, but they weren’t friendly. Bella (she’s my horse) has been my best friend since Uncle Jose gave her to me not long after she was born.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I think to the time when my parents were still alive. I’d love to spend some time with them again, as I’m starting to forget what they looked and sounded like. I miss them a lot.
