Heroine interview from Finally a Bride by Vickie McDonough:

1. Jacqueline Hamilton Davis aka Jack, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Trouble seems to follow me, no matter how I try to avoid it. Probably because I’ve always been a tomboy and a bit headstrong.

2. What do you do for fun? Fun? What’s that? I live in a tiny Texas town where not much happens. I used to go fishing with my good friends, but now I guess the most fun I have is watching the funny things my younger siblings do. Emmy, my two-year-old sister, has been known to lob a soggy biscuit across the dinner table at an unsuspecting guest.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it? Housecleaning. (shiver) Or cooking. I’d much rather be outside, sniffing out a story the local newspaper—did I mention I’m a reporter for the Lookout Ledger?

4. What are you afraid of most in life? That I will never leave Lookout.

5. What do you want out of life? I dream of going to Dallas to be a big city reporter, where I can cover exciting stories and not report things like how many puppies Mr. Carter’s hound dog had.

6. What is the most important thing to you? Getting my story. If I can just land one good story, I’ll be able to head for Dallas. Lately, the mayor’s been acting suspicious. I know he’s up to something. And there’s a new minister in town that looks a bit shady. Wonder what secrets he’s hiding.

7. Do you read? Haha—that would be a funny thing—a reporter who didn’t read. If so, what is your favorite type of book to read? I help Jenny Evans proof the news copy each week, and if you won’t let my ma know, there’s usually a dime novel hidden under my pillow. Shhh…

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Hmm…I got the thing I wanted most out of life—a good pa. He married my ma ten years ago and life changed for us. If I could change something about me, I’d have blond hair instead of my plain auburn hair.

9. Do you have a pet? Not any more. If so, what is it and why that pet? I used to have an old yellow dog name Max, but he died a few years ago. He was a good dog.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why? I’d like to travel back to the days of knights and lords and ladies. I wouldn’t make too great of a lady, but it sure would be fun to watch a jousting tournament or a swordfight.
