Interview with the hero for A Family for Faith by Missy Tippens:
1. Gabe Reynolds, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Well, I’m a regular, everyday guy, so that’s pretty tough. I guess most interesting is that I’m a single dad of a nearly-thirteen-year-old daughter. Life with a pre-teen girl gets pretty interesting, to say the least!
2. What do you do for fun?
I spend most of my time working as the local Chief of Police. But I do enjoy a good cup of coffee and doughnuts at Faith’s Coffee Time Café.
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Dealing with girl things. You know…those things a girl really needs a mother for. Hair styling, boy talk, makeup, parties… Makes my stomach hurt just to think of it.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Failing to protect my daughter—physically, emotionally, spiritually.
5. What do you want out of life?
Good question. Seems like I’m struggling just to get by right now. I’d have to say that if I could do a good job raising my daughter to be healthy and happy, then I’d be satisfied that I’d live life to its fullest.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
Sorry to sound repetitive, but I guess it’s pretty obvious. My daughter, Chelsea.
7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?
No time to read. But I do try to sit and read with Chelsea at bedtime when I can.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My wife died and Chelsea was severely injured in a car accident, so I tend to be over-protective of Chelsea. My neighbor, Faith, has told me I need to relax, give Chels a little room to grow up. Well, I’m trying. But now I find I’m starting to care for Faith, and it’s difficult to allow myself to even consider loving someone else.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No pets. Maybe once Chels is older and can take care of one herself.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
Of course, I’d love to go back to the day of the accident and prevent my wife and daughter from leaving the house that day. But I’m learning to live my life without playing “what if” and to rely on God’s provision.
