Interview with the heroine:
1.Cassandra Chase, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
Please call me Cassie. The most interesting thing about me is my ability to have fun with my job. I write this wonderful column for the Lakewood Journal newspaper – it’s actually syndicated in most of Harrison Stevens’s papers across the country. Anyway, it’s called Cassie’s Capers, and it’s as fun as it sounds. I get to be outrageous and novel to serious about fundraising for just about any worthy cause. Right now, I’m into nostalgia. I just attended a 60s convention in Kansas City. It was a blast!
2. What do you do for fun?
This summer I intend on attending as many of The Monkees’ concerts as I can get to here in the Midwest – further away if I can get the time from my job. It’s their 20th Anniversary Reunion concert, and there will be some great acts performing with them – Herman’s Hermits – minus Herman – Rob Grill and the Grassroots, and Gary Pucket – without the Union Gap. It’s going to be so much fun!
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Serious journalism. My boss and friend, David Watson, is always trying to get me to branch out into what he calls “real” journalism. I come from a long line of newspapermen, and though I feel it’s a great profession, I’m just not into it that way. I prefer the freedom of my column.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Being forced into writing some of that journalistic stuff David’s always talking about. He’s trying to force me to write a series on this woman that was murdered yesterday, Lynette Sandler. He thinks because he sees this weird resemblance between us that I’d be the perfect person to write her story – make her into more than just a statistic. I’m kinda scared of that.
5. What do you want out of life?
To someday have a husband and family. You know, the All American Dream.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
I’ve been on the outside of my walk with God for several years and am trying to get right with Him. Right now, that’s the most important thing to me.
7. Do you read? If so, what is your favorite type of book to read?
I LOVE to read! Mysteries, suspense, thrillers, things that get your blood pumping and heart thumping. Through, right now, with this murder here in town, I think a nice light-hearted book would be good.
8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
That holding too many secrets isn’t always a good thing. It’s supposed to be honorable, but sometimes I wonder if it is or not. Sometimes, I think it makes things worse.
9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
Yes, I do. A big, fluffy cat named Oscar. He’s the perfect companion for me – and quite the little gentleman.
10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?
Um . . . this has to do with those secrets. I think I’d go back to see if somehow I could change the promise I made to keep them. Yeah. I think that’s what I’d do.
